Today harvested the last of the Pumpkins and Squashes from our vegetable garden bathed in Autumn sunlight and Conference Pears from the espalier tree growing on the wall just outside the bedroom window of Welcombe Coastal Barn. Good autumn food. Our favourite of the squashes is 'Crown Prince' for its beauty as well as its very special taste. Sage coloured skin hiding golden flesh. Cooked with leeks, chestnuts and foraged mushrooms (parasols from the cliffs & field mushrooms from the meadows) in a red wine sauce then eaten in front of the wood fire is a dead cert for maximum pleasure at this time of year.
